Questions and No Answers

I just don't get it - and I am finally going to ask even if I sound like a total loser, whiny, insecure artist.  So forgive me in advance for the personal rant - anyway it's Christmas and people are feeling a lot more generous and caring about other people.

So - Why Don't people here show any interest in my work?  I see images posted here that gets dozens of comments , even simple icons.    Not saying that my work is superior but it is certainly equal to most works posted here and of better tech quality and interesting imagery than a lot of works.   Perhaps I am delusional, and my work really does simply "Suck."
If anyone feels like giving me their answers - I would really like to them.

What motivates you to look at images at lj?

whoa is me mode:

I like to look at your artwork but usually I see it in the morning before going to work and don't have time to make a comment. When I get home there are more posts on LJ that I perhaps don't go back far enough to see your post again. From me it's not that I don't want to make a comment. I try to comment on posts but sometimes it just slips by.

Sorry if you don't feel appreciated I will try to do better in the future

Well, I haven't commented on your images (except for the Giles one), but I like them. But then--I pretty much never comment on images on lj, so maybe I'm not the target for this question?

I don't know about you but I have a photobucket account and photobucket has a a stats section. It gives you the stats on your top viewed pictures. After I post my seasonal_spuffy entry (I rarely do art work for anything else, because of time limits) I check out the stats. I usually get maybe 10-20 comments but my stats say I had 800-1500 views of my artwork.

That is why I TRY to make comments on all artists work, because if we can't support each other than how can we expect others to support us? I try to make comments unfortunately I don't always have time and I sometimes miss a posting,

I know it's frustrating but try to not sweat the small stuff.

Merry Christmas.

I know I don't always take the time to look at all the images posted on lj (by you or anyone else). Something about the description, characters, or something else has to catch my attention, and that has to be combined with my having the time to look at them (not on dial-up, but not broadband either). When I do, it's usually a quick peek, and I rarely comment on artwork unless it really knocks my socks off and/or it has inspired me to write something for it.

I may not be the best source for information, though, as I'm not part of any art communities and have little experience with it. Hence my lack of clicking on every piece posted on my flist. I find that much of it doesn't appeal to me, even when I can admire the skill it may have taken to make it, so I don't always bother to look. (Not speaking of you, specifically, but posts of art work in general).

I think the poster who mentioned that people who are very social and do a lot of commenting is on the right track also. As your circle of friends on LJ expands, you may find that more people are commenting. Especially if you have been commenting on their posts and they feel they've come to "know" you.

Hang in there. It's hard when you try and it seems it isn't appreciated, but the more people who see it and like it, the more the word will spread.

i love all your work but i'm scared you'll think i'm a stalker for commenting on EVERYTHING. also i'm sick and tired= lazy

Lately, I haven't been leaving comments very much on any thing. Not because I don't enjoy things, but I'm dead tired most of the time. Working retail during the holidays beats me down. I skim through LJ this time of the year. I think your work is beautiful, but don't always have time or energy to leave comments. I'll try to do better.

I love your stuff. I'm so proud to have your banner on my story!

It doesn't suck at all. And I've been completely remiss this entire -- well, mostly since August/September. I haven't commented much on anything, I've barely posted and I've been a really lousy LJ friend. My only excuse is work sucks and I've been sick pretty much steadily since September. I just can't catch a break.

Anyway, you don't suck. Your work is as good as any of the other stuff being posted (and sometimes far superior).

I'll try to do better and comment more often.

Happy Christmas!

I think your work is fantastic. I don't comment nearly enough on people's efforts though. Many times it's because I'm very tired and mostly brain dead, or because I'm in a hurry. But no matter the reason, I should do better at commenting.

You rock and I suck for not telling you that more often. I love your work, Syl. I just suck at commenting.

Merry Christmas!

I get how you feel.

It can sometimes feel that way in fandom, I guess, if one isn't a BNF.

I would suggest perhaps linking to your posts via Petzi maybe?

<--hasn't commented on much of anything lately.

Time is the factor for me to look and comment. Lately life has been hectic and I don't have much non-work time. That limits my online. I've become very bad at leaving comments for anything of late. I read/skim my flist and then often don't have time to respond even to my own posts.

I DO have your lovely Christmas art bookmarked to comment upon. You are an exceptional artist and I've not seen any "bad" work from you. If it makes you feel any better I wonder about my stories too at times. I get precious few comments for the most part even when posting on multiple sites. I don't know what motivates a response actually.

Love you and your art and hope you begin to get the recognition you well deserve.

My opinion? I can only speak for me; but when I go to my F-List I comment on icons, not very often on artwork. Just a matter of time.
You work doesn't suck. I guess it's we people that fail to comment.
*hugs you tight*

Your works uis great - I'm a bit late reading this post as I am only dipping in and out of LJ at this time of year.

I tend to do LJ backwards to where I last read and try to open a few to look at ... but it always depends on time ... sadly I think we all have that roblem from time to time.

I'm even bad at looking though fellow 20in20 competitors work ... which we are encouraged to do.

Sorry - I am aiming ot be better next year .... honest.

Hope you had a good Christmas, btw.

What movivates me? Probably just having time to view and comment, something that's often in short supply during the holiday season (and most other days ending a "y"). That and I have been (and still am) miserably sick. However, I just posted a story for the first time, at Bloodshedverse and Elysian Fields and I was stunned at the ratio between views/reads and comments. At BSV, I'm currently at 164 reads/2 comments. That's a big ratio. And it's definitely made me more appreciative of how much time and effort go into a single post. So even if I'm half asleep/awake or running late, I plan to do much more commenting, even if I only have time for a single line.

As for your amazing stuff, I am clueless. Perhaps they already think you know how talented you are? 'Cause you are definitely my favorite Buffy artist and I sincerely hope you'll do another of the "graphic novel" style stories with the photos and the original dialogue balloons. I don't think I've ever seen anything by you that I didn't think was great. So I hope to see more in 2011.

Thank you for sharing your talent and hard work!
